Leon Drogy Loves Working for Restaurants

Stress and long hours: these come with the territory, for people who work in restaurants. Nevertheless, Leon Drogy loves restaurant work. Since 1990, the New York native has been working for restaurants where he rose to his current position today as Vice President for Catering at Colonial Terrace.

Leon Drogy’s first venture into restaurant work was in the area of sales. Sales Manager for Classic Caterers was the position he held. Shortly, Leon moved to banquets. Water’s Edge Restaurant and later, Tavern on the Green employed him as a Banquet Manager. His primary responsibilities as a Banquet Manager were overseeing all the aspects of banquets and staff supervision. From setting up the site, choosing the menu, food preparation, serving the food and site clean-up – Mr Drogy managed all these banquet aspects of restaurant operation. His staff supervision functions included hiring, training, coaching and performance evaluation.

At Tavern on the Green, Leon Drogy rose to the position of Director of Banquet Operations. His job included the day-to-day supervision of banquet operations which ranged from laying down the banquet objectives and communicating them well to the staff, ensuring that tasks were assigned to staff and making sure that they were capable of doing their jobs by training them. Mr Drogy also saw to it that the restaurant inventory was secure, the equipments well-maintained and the funds well-managed.

A Meeting Planner and Sales Manager

Leon Drogy has worked in industries such as restaurant and catering, food and beverage and being associated with a member firm and a publishing, online and entertainment group. Having experiences in those fields allowed Leon Drogy to learn and improve on a number of skills making him better equipped as a professional. He was appointed to be a Meeting Planner for the “International Trademark Association” or INTA which is based in New York from 1987-1989. He also worked as a Meeting Planner for “General Media, Inc.” also in New York from 1989 – 1990.

The job is to execute the requirements of clients by arranging a convention or congress, conference, meeting, incentive travel program or special event. Leon Drogy is a member of several professional associations and as such, he was appointed as the Secretary, Board of Directors in one of his organizations; namely the “Yorktown Chamber of Commerce”. Professional associations greatly help professionals such as Leon Drogy to network and interact with other individuals and to acquire additional knowledge and information on a series of issues, topics and subject matters.

Leon Drogy is affiliated with the “New Yorktown Chamber of Commerce” which promotes the economic development and growth of the town’s five business hamlets. This is done through a coordinated program of promotional activities and membership benefits. Being appointed as its Secretary, Board of Directors means that the group entrusts their vision and mission to his commitment to the organization.

The general responsibilities of Leon Drogy being the Secretary would be to assure accuracy and to have the sufficient documentation exist to meet legal requirements. He needs to facilitate authorized individuals to decide when, how, and by whom the board’s business was conducted. Executing these responsibilities is subject to the organization’s bylaws. Secretary Mr Drogy has to record minutes of meetings while ensuring accuracy and availability. He has to propose policies and practices, present several reports to the board, look after membership records and complete any other requirements of a Director and Officer while managing other tasks as the need arises and/or as defined in the bylaws.
